Star Shine Surprise Boxes

Wednesday, August 1st @ 2:00 p.m.

For grades 6-12.  Decorate a star shaped gift box with paint, stars, and seed beads.

PSO KinderKonzert–Tonight!

violinJoin Portland Symphony Orchestra’s String Quintet for the Story of Abbie Burgess tonight at 6:30 pm.

Experience the nor’easters of 1856 with 11-year-old Abbie as she keeps the Matinicus Lighthouse burning for four weeks while her father was stranded off island and her mother was gravely ill.  Abbie’s story is recounted in the book Keep the Lights Burning, Abbie, available in the Children’s Room.

This is a great opportunity to introduce children to stringed instruments!  And it’s free, thanks to a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Stars on Stage Talent Show!

appreciative performerOur fourth Talent Show will be Tuesday, August 7 at 6:00 pm.  Everyone is welcome to attend!  Performers need to pre-register by Aug. 1, and are asked to arrive at 5:30pm, in costume and ready to go.  To pre-register, please call the Children’s Room at 985-2173 x-5 or by clicking here.

Musical Adventures for Toddlers!

Maria drummingFamilies are invited to join us on Fri., July 27 for multicultural music and movement led by Maria Bija of Sebastopol CA.  Creative movement activities are enhanced by playing with small percussion instruments, scarves, beanbags and more.  All class accompaniments are performed live by Maria herself on guitar, percussion and keyboards.

Children from birth to age two are invited to join in at 10:00 am, while children ages 3-5 are invited to the 11:00 class.  Pre-registration is required for this special event.  Please call 985-2173 x-5 or click here.
