On June 18, 1942…

…movie critic and author Roger Ebert was born.  In 1975, he became the first film critic to win a Pulitzer Prize for Criticism, and in 2005, he became the first film critic to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Although he stopped reviewing movies on television for medical reasons (due to complications from surgery, he can no longer speak), he still writes.  A LOT.  His website is a hugely helpful resource, and he’s a dedicated user of Twitter.   (This hilarious review of the recent A-Team remake may explain my affection for him — I very much appreciate that, rather than just panning the movie with a few words, he took the time to explain exactly what made the movie so bad.  He loves film (which you’d think would be a requirement for a film critic, but if you read enough reviews, you’ll realize that sadly, it isn’t), and it shows.)

This post, about his use of Twitter, is well worth a read — especially for naysayers.
