The trailer for Rivers and Tides, a documentary about artist Andy Goldsworthy:
…begins tonight at 7pm. This month’s theme: The Afterlife.
Tonight’s film is a 1943 Ernst Lubitsch classic about a man who, after his death, has to explain the choices he made in life in order to find out whether he’ll be playing a harp or trying to keep cool. It stars Don Ameche and Gene Tierney.

And the Tuesday Night Movie Series begins anew tomorrow night at 7pm. This month’s theme is Lesser Known Christmas Classics. Tomorrow night’s WE’RE pleased to offer a film that stars Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray and Peter Ustinov as escaped convicts with hearts of gold — they’re NO ANGELS.

On Monday (December 1st!), from 6-8pm, we’ll be showing a film based on the novel THE ICE STORMby Rick Moody. The 1997 film was directed by Ang Lee, stars Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tobey Maguire and Elijah Wood (among others!), and is rated R.

For Book-to-Film Night this month, we’re showing a film based on Annie Proulx’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Shipping News. This 2001 film was directed by Lasse Hallström, stars Kevin Spacey, Judi Dench, Julianne Moore and Cate Blanchett, and is rated R.
Tuesday, November 4th @ 7pm:
The theme for this month’s Tuesday Night Film Series is At the Gas Station. Our first film is from 1947, directed by Jacques Tourneur, and features Kirk Douglas and Jane Greer coming OUT OF THE mists of Robert Mitchum’s PAST. It is unrated.

Two of the DVDs are brief documentaries funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts:
Why Shakespeare?is a 21 minute film by Lawrence Bridges. It features, in part, Christina Applegate, Tom Hanks, William Shatner and Martin Sheen.
Muse of Fireis 50 minute documentary, also by Lawrence Bridges. It features readings from the NEA sponsored Operation Homecoming: Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Home Front in the Words of U.S. Troops and Their Families.
The third new DVD is Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison, directed by John Huston. The 1957 film stars Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr, playing a Marine and an Irish nun (respectively, of course!). Kerr was nominated for an Oscar for her role.
